What can I do to protect myself from COVID-19?

Although there are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Union County, the virus has reached the state of New Mexico.

In light of this recent spread of the virus in our state, we want to make sure our community is informed and prepared to be proactive against the further spread of the Coronavirus.

Just like with many other respiratory illnesses, the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, to cough or sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue, and avoid contact with people who are coughing or sneezing. Also, stay home from work or school when you are sick.

The following symptoms may occur 2-14 days after exposure:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath

Monitor your symptoms:

  • Seek medical attention if your illness is worsening (e.g. difficulty breathing)
  • Call your doctor. Before seeking care, call the clinic and speak to Tricia Riley at 575-374-CARE (2273) OR call the hospital and speak to Dana Maez at 575-374-2585 ext 7162 and tell them your symptoms and/or concerns of COVID-19.
  • Wear a face mask when sick. Put on a face mask before you enter the facility. This step will help healthcare providers to keep other people in the office or waiting room from getting infected or being exposed.

If you are sick, please stay home, except to get medical care.

  • Stay home. People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. You should restrict activities outside your home, except for getting medical care.
  • Avoid public areas. Do not go to work, school, or public areas if you are sick.
  • Call 911 if you have a medical emergency. If you have a medical emergency and need to call 911, notify the dispatch personnel that you have, or are being evaluated for COVID-19. If possible, put on a face mask before emergency medical services arrive.

Limited Entrances to Hospital and Clinic: In order to properly screen our patients and visitors to protect our patients and staff, we will have two entrances to the hospital; the North Main Entrance and the Emergency Room Entrance. You will be asked a few screening questions, which will help us to better take care of you and other patients. If you are sick, you will not be allowed into the main areas of the hospital, you will be directed to the Emergency Room where you must put on a mask as soon as entering
