Union County General Hospital (UCGH) provides numerous services for patients. These services includes those deemed necessary to the community as listed in the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and more.
As the key healthcare provider for Clayton, New Mexico, Union County, and neighboring communities, UCGH is proud to offer the services below. Click the link above each section for a full description of the department and all services rendered.
UCHC Clinic
Union County Health Center is the UCGH hospital-based rural health clinic for Clayton, New Mexico. Contracted with most insurance companies, the clinic provides general care to patients from Union County and surrounding communities. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins will be seen if possible.
Des Moines Health Center
In 2021, Union County General Hospital established Des Moines Health Center in Des Moines, NM. Long-time UCGH team member, Jamie Armijo is the clinic provider.
UCGH Radiology
Diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries require medical imaging techniques. These techniques play an important role in monitoring a patient’s treatment and predicting the outcome. The radiology department of UCGH is equipped with some of the most up-to-date and state-of-the-art technology available in the industry.
Rehabilitation
From sports injuries, low back and neck pain, and joint replacements to Kinesio taping and wound care, our therapists help patients build strength and increase function for a greater quality of life. Therapy services are offered in our facility and, in some cases, the comfort of a patient’s own home.
UCGH Lab
Laboratory testing is a common tool for detecting and confirming medical conditions and determining the best course of treatment. Under the clinical supervision of a pathologist, the Union County General Hospital lab serves our patients with state-of-the-art test equipment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
UCGH Swing Bed Care
Swing Bed Care ensures 24-hour nursing for patients who discharged from inpatient care but require therapy before returning home. It is a treatment option provided through Medicare for qualified patients which helps critical care hospitals such as UCGH to provide better care for the elderly.
UCGH Surgical Care
Recovering from a surgery can be difficult. The UCGH staff assists and monitors patients returning from surgery.
Our staff educates and prepares patients for their recovery upon leaving UCGH so that patients know what to expect when recovering and what to do should complications arise.
Nursing
The nursing staff at UCGH is committed to the best patient care. Whether acute or intensive care is required, our skilled registered nurses, aides, and providers provide the highest level. Our hospital is home to inpatient care programs which include IV Therapy, Acute Care, Intensive Care, and Telemetry.
UCGH Pharmacy
Medications are an important component for the care and treatment of patients at UCGH. While not all patients will need medications, we have an extensive pharmacy to provide the prescriptions necessary to your recovery.
If you are taking medications prior to admission, we can also provide these.
UCGH Respiratory Care
The Union County General Hospital Respiratory Care Department assists with smoking cessation, asthma education, COPD monitoring, and the management of both acute and chronic pulmonary disease. When breathing becomes important to you, turn to the Respiratory Care team at UCGH.
UCGH Emergency Care
Efficient, attentive care is important when treating patients in an emergency. UCGH is equipped to handle medical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering advanced adult and pediatric life support.

UCGH Sleep Study
If you snore, experience pauses in your breathing during sleep, cannot stay asleep, or are tired all day, you may have a treatable medical condition. The UCGH Sleep Study Lab can help. With the sleep study, our providers can determine how to help you get a better night’s sleep.
UCGH Home Health
To help patients return to an optimal level of function, UCGH has a staff of skilled health care professionals trained to assist you in your home. Our caregivers are available to provide safe, reliable, compassionate care to all patients in a respectful manner and with dignity.
UCGH Trauma Care
In July 2015, the New Mexico Department of Health made UCGH a Level IV Trauma Center. It provides specialized medical services and resources to patients suffering from traumatic injuries. We are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a specially-trained Trauma Team.
