Welcoming New Interim CEO, Jeanette Filpi

Union County General Hospital is pleased to welcome our new Interim CEO, Jeanette Filpi, to Clayton.
Filpi is a Southern Virginia resident who has spent the last two decades of her career filling in for hospitals in an interim CEO role, where she found a specific passion for serving and supporting rural healthcare systems.
Through the course of her education and career, Filpi has worked in almost every area of healthcare, first practicing as a physical therapist before receiving her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. She describes her path to rural healthcare as unexpected, but once she began assisting small hospitals, the connection she felt was undeniable.
Tammie Chavez, UCGH’s previous CEO, has moved into a new role with the Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) as Market CEO, while Filpi has stepped into Chavez’s role as an interim, describing the process as a “hand off” that aims to be a smooth transition for hospital staff and patients.
“Tammie was instrumental in Union County General Hospital’s success and forward progress. We work well together and share similar viewpoints as well as a passion for healthcare. I am here to help and keep the great things that have been done continue to move forward in preparation for the next CEO,” Filpi says.
As interim CEO, Filpi’s role will be one of support with the UCGH Board of Directors continuing to lead the hospital during the search for a new, permanent CEO. CHC, which is under contract to manage the hospital, will spearhead the search for a new CEO who reflects the qualifications set by the UCGH Board of Directors.
Flipi says she is not here to simply be a placeholder but a complement—supporting and continuing UCGH’s forward progress in rural healthcare support and services.
“UCGH is a great little hospital with more dynamic and complex services that aren’t always [available] in small hospitals. The providers here are dedicated and this hospital is very impressive… I’m looking forward to working with such supportive leadership in a wonderful community.”
